Ok. Sinknet, Laghub, badnet, now which has the least problems and which has the most problems?

Threads have be pretty useful in gaining some info about those ISP, but errors arise when comments aren't firsthand or other factors causing inaccuracy in the views of ISPs. So, I thought making a poll would be nice to see exactly what each of the ISPs' customers are experiencing. To make it as precise as possible, 9 choices will be posted. 3 for each ISP, Singnet, Starhub and Pacnet(other less used ISP will be neglected).

Excellent-Extremely occasional lag or crash.
Acceptable-Lag sometimes, but crashes are still very rare.
(^%*&^%*(^&-No need further explanation.

and for those who just cannot control themselves and just neeeed to make a poll, there is an option specially made for you.;)

How about "Badnet"? Or BEgNet
 

i wonder if i'll be lambasted for saying this ... :think:

laghub is actually a subsidiary (co) of sink net. so basically what laghub is doing is, they lease the lines /cables from sinknet. left pocket to right pocket ? :)

badnet? that one im not sure, but i think its really ex and mayb those who boycott both sinknet and laghub will go for it :bsmilie:
 

having swtiched from starhub to singnet recently... imo starhub had better download speeds.. especially at peak hours at night.
 

IIRC, all telphone lines are laid by only 1 company in sg. So as long as you're using ADSL, you got to use a phone line..

left pocket to right.. right to left you can't escape it. local open market isn't that 'open' as we all think it is.

i think there's some confusion here (i think especially since i think everyone started giving nicknames to the ISPs)

here's some clarification, i think a lot very blur anyhow shoot. Here's my understanding, if got ppl more clear, pls correct me.

Singtel (ST) is the main mofo telco.
Singnet (SN) is the internet arm of ST

Singapore/Starhub Cable Vision(SCV) layed fiber cables all around singapore for the cable infrastructure.
Starhub (SH) leases ground lines and mobile station infrastructure from ST for telco (i.e. voice lines), and sells mobile phones,
Starhub Internet (SI) leases lines from SCV to provide internet access to the public, at the same time, leases a couple of T3 lines from ST for direct connection to some countries.


Pacnet (PN) leases from ST for adsl, ISDN
D-one (D1) leases from ST for ADSL, ISDN


Singtel Magix is the failed experimental ATM infrastructure that was repackaged in a more affordable (and slower speed) to the masses.

there u have it. there's more but i'm tired. :p
 

what ever the case... all sux and all equally slow.

compare the speeds we have here and those in korea and us....

and even those in india are even faster den singapore.

starhub claims that their hardware can support the evergrowing customer base and its refuses to admit that their systems are over burdened..
 

sometimes i'm curious... need so fast speed for wat? sg already start to sniff out those P2P.... movie downloaders...etc

its a matter of time....

for me, i check mail, surf web no need fast fast one. hahahaha. only occassionally need to download linux ISOs.
 

fast because sometimes when u visit content heavy websites like CS, u will need alot of bandwith to load those 100-200 long pages what...

and nevertheless.. when u wanna upload a image, i am sure u wouldnt want to wait for like 15mins to load one 4mp photo rite ?
 

All I would ask for is FTTH high speed internet download and upload at price point of what being offered in S. Korea or HK.

wait for a while. starhub installing fibre optics for the future soon, singapore shall have horrendously fast speed:D . if you compare throughout the world, singapore can be the only few countries that can support this due to her small, well-developed infastructure. if you want japanese or india and korea to cover their countries with optic fibres, it is going to be like $$$$$$$$.

but then again, technology is soooo unpredictable. later finish laying out the optic cables, something else even faster and cheaper comes in. then again, optic fibres uses light, so how much faster can it go? then again, technology is unlimited, so there's no limit it can go. then again..............wireless?:confused:

what i am saying is.... once those controls are in place... the overall network usage will be reduced due to lack of p2p (who am i kidding?).... and thus improve the overall user experience for all of us. :bsmilie:

I think my MOL6500 is acceptable lah. Needs a little tweaking when downloading large files (like gametrailers.com) to get optimum speed though.

i was under the impression that existing starhub cable was already fibre optic..

But starhub currently blocks port 80 leh... hope by then they'll reduce restrictions..

probably the terms are loosely used..... fiber optic is the backbone only...

no way household is going to have fiber points running throughout the house. its too blardy expensive. and cheapskate consumers is not going to fork out $800 per point installation or the $800 gigabit fiber card.
