I am eyeing Sigma APO 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG MARCO lens. I am
wondering is it possible to use this lens without a tripod?
I am thinking of bringing this lens to the F1 races in Singapore, any
possiblility of capturing a close up of the speeding cars?
My camera setup is a Canon EOS 400D.

Thanks!

If you think you're strong enough then perhaps you no need a tripod? haha. How heavy isit anyways. I've tried using a Nikon 80-400 without tripod. But it aint exactly easy.

1. It's MACRO, not MARCO. This is not Marco Polo.

2. F1 limit is 200mm, and you're not allowed to bring tripods. The 300mm will not be let in. And without in-body AS like on the Sony/Pentax/Olympus cameras you'll have lots of shake.

Better not spend $$$ to buy new lenses for the F1.

You might not even get a good shot cos the fencing will be quite high.

Thanks, me also L-Plate lar... first attempt using the 70-300 to capture Airshow
used Aperture mode and f/11 for bigger depth of field so that focusing error is a lesser issue. Then pan the camera as the plane flew pass.... you can check out the settings in my gallery (click on the photo)
