Hi all,

I have a Sigma 17-70mm lens for almost a year. Last month, when I brought it to the cold of Europe, for the first time, it actually exhibited zoom creep from the 50mm onwards.

Luckily, warranty was covered in this period. So I brought it to the Sigma service centre. The guy was very nice, in that he explained patiently to me that zoom creep is INEVITABLE and INHERENT in zoom lenses. He could change the ball bearings for me, but they would be worn out sooner or later.

Not really understanding the design behind zoom lenses, I now pose the question to you:
is zoom creep inherent or defect? Can you accept your zoom lenses to creep? New lens? 12 month old? 24 month old?

My beercan is over 20 years old and has no zoom creep.

Then again, it could be a sigma issue.

Newer plastic built lens are usually prone to it, especially those that really extend alot, like 18-200. Not a big issue to me unless really very very loose. Continue enjoy shooting. ;)

zoom creep is inherent in newer lenses, not so in the older metal stuff.
my 18-200 nikon started creepin after half yr of extensive usage.
so far have had no real issues abt it

U intending to service it, or live with it?

live with it, unless it drops out loosely. i had one 70-300, so loose till not creeping but drop out when tilt top down

i used a few telezooms before, all ended up with these problems eventually.
unless is those metal stuff from old.

but i guess since urs still under warranty, get it serviced.
