I suspect that Zeiss is putting out new lenses, possibly primes,
for 1.5/1.6x crop cameras. Probably starting with nikon ... and if it works,
they can try the other brands like Canon, minolta, olympus and pentax...
all of which have APS-sized sensor DSLRs.

If this is true, I think Zeiss is tapping an under-exploited part of the market i.e.

1) Very few real "premium" lenses for these major DSLR brands using 1.6x crop

2) Very few prime lenses. How many 1.6x crop primes does canon even make?
I only know of the EFS 60/2.8 macro... and Sigma has a 30/1.4

3) There is a big market for wide-angle prime lenses like the way Olympus is
building them.... e.g. for APS size you can build a 14mm f2.0 probably at not much
more than the equiv. 14/2.8 in 135format.... to give an equiv. 21/2.0 WA for
APS format. The popularity of the Contax CY 21/2.8 for EOS 1Ds/Dsmk2 etc. is proof
of the demand.

We will know by next thursday, Singapore time.

cb. Why Nikon? 1.5x? Sigh....

If the prediction is correct, it will be an interesting situation....
they may have lenses which will work on some EOS cameras like EOS 350D/20D ... but not on 5D and 1Dsmk2/1Dmk2 ... primarily because nobody else makes FF DSLRs.

So you will be able to buy Zeiss AF lenses for your EOS20D but not your 1Dsmk2...
