I'm thinking of selling my Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 Macro(Canon mount) and thinking of getting the 18-50mm F2.8 instead. Will the constant aperture give better details in low light conditions? Cannot afford a Canon lens just yet.. your opinion pls.. thanks in advance.

What you'll get is a brighter viewfinder and it will improve on your tele end when you're shooting in low light. F4.5 vs f2.8...

Also note that the lenses normally work better at about 1-2 stops down, i.e. f4 to f5.6 for a f2.8 lens...
