Equipment Type: Accessory
Equipment Brand: Pentax
Equipment Model: 49mm-pk adapter (super macro focus method explained)
Price (S$): 15
Description:
Selling a 49mm-Pk adapter,

turn any 49mm front thread lens into super macro lens, (like Pentax SMC K/M/A/F/FA 28mm, 35mm, 50mm lens with aperture ring.)

this technique enable you to have super macro lens beyond 1:1, and still maintain fixed 4.5cm lens to subject distance. (which is flange focal distance of pentax camera)

the formular is simple, reversed 50mm is roughly 1:1, and reversed 28mm is roughy 2:1.

unlike the extension tube method, it is reducing the lens to subject distance as extension increased, as with extension of 60mm, 28mm lens is almost touching the subject, giving 1mm subject to lens working distance.

that is why, reverse lens method has its advantage than extension tube, at the cost of lost 1-2 stop (depends on focal length) of light of normal mounting position.

but for macro, as we use flash, so 1-2 stop doesn't matter, while keep your subject no alerted is more important in macro photography.

-------------------------------

enough said, compared to

- Raynox DRC-250, a common macro filter, 120 sgd from shop, it achieve macro shot by reducing working distance, make your lens focus closer without light loss;

--- disadvantage of DRC-250 compared to reverse ring, works well only from 135mm focal length onward to achieve 1:1; to achieve more, the longer focal length required, but longer lens tends on have 77mm filter thread and bigger, DRC-250 can only adapter to 52mm-67mm; make it not useful on 49mm small lens and bigger long lens.

- extension tube and same concept bellow system, good for short focal length to achieve super beyond 1:1 macro, like 5:1 macro as 30mm lens on 150mm extension; make long focal lens into macro lens, like 150mm lens on 150mm extension to achieve 1:1 at a much longer working distance, like 50cm to subject if I remember correctly, if you mount 500mm focal length on extension, you can achieve 1:1 macro at 1 meter plus working distance.

-- disadvantage of extension tube compared to reverse mount method, extension is quite big compared to a just filter ring type mount adapter, for a consume macro user, that is too big, reverse mount method has a much better working distance when working with short focal length, that is why people use small extension with reversed mounted 24-50mm range lens for super 2:1 portal macro with 4.5cm working distance for small bugs.

- macro filter, they are just like DCR-250, but DCR-250 is much much better with image quality, forget those +10,+8 macro filter, the image quality is just not there.

- macro lens, 35mm macro lens is good but expensive than 15sgd, they give 14cm working distance at 1:1; 50mm macro lens is good but expensive than 15 sgd, they give 20mm working distance; 100mm macro lens is good but expensive than 15 sgd, they give 30mm working distance.

- male-to-male reverse ring, basically mount a lens revered on another lens, it give super macro like 10:1, like 20mm lens revered mount the front of a 200mm lens; it is good to use, but much much dark for light coming through, need LED lit for subject. same concept of my reverse mount.

- disadvantage of male to male reverse ring, it is just too heavey with 2 lens to use, good for experiment only.

of course, all method can be combined to achieve more.

fomular to experiment how much macro you achieved,

1. take photo of a ruler, get reading of length left-to-right in the image, if it is 1.2cm length in photo.
2. pentax aps-c sensor size is roughly 2.4cm in length,
3. so your macro rate achieved is 2.4/ 1.2 = 2x, so called 2:1 macro rate

some type error correction

- macro lens, 35mm macro lens is good but expensive than 15sgd, they give 14cm working distance at 1:1; 50mm macro lens is good but expensive than 15 sgd, they give 20cm (not mm) working distance; 100mm macro lens is good but expensive than 15 sgd, they give 30cm (not mm) working distance.
