Short Description: WTB pentax f*300

Price (S$): 650

Condition of Item(s): 8

Detailed Description:
As the title says, am looking for an F300 lens in good condition.

or similar... for bird pics

Thanks.

They seem to be overpriced... often they are re-listed.

Also considering the DA* and TC combo :)

I have the DA*300.
$650 is not a realistic price honestly. Neither is $750

there is a FA* 300 f4.5 in very good condition for 950sgd on carousell

https://sg.carousell.com/p/pentax-fa-300mm-f-4-5-ed-if-170748236/

also, some guy sell a good condition FA* for 900 as well
https://www.clubsnap.com/threads/wt...hd-pentax-da-1-4x-aw-af-rear-convert.1706941/

bargain a bit, you may get it around your budget, since it is hard to sell pentax lens these days, mostly like they want to get rid of them quickly.

sometimes if you wait long enough and they have hard time to find a buyer, they may lower the price as time goes by.

also, sigma 150-500mm OS is good enough for birding, and within your budget as well, and longer reach as well.
https://www.clubsnap.com/threads/wt...-sigma-art-18-35-f1-8-pentax-k3-body.1697586/

or those DA 55-300 are good option as well, dal can be as cheap as 100sgd,
DA version can be 150-200, https://sg.carousell.com/p/pentax-da-55-300-telephoto-lens-203090123/

HD WR version can be around 300,
https://sg.carousell.com/p/pentax-hd-55-300mm-f4-5-8-ed-wr-190387381/

brand new latest DA WR RE can be found around 399 at carousell
https://sg.carousell.com/p/pentax-da-55-300mm-lens-199331665/

this guy has a F* 300mm f4.5 in his bundle sale,
https://sg.carousell.com/p/pentax-k5-a-300mm-f2-8-and-many-more-180974125/

if you think out of pentax brand, and get a cheap 2nd hand canikon body,

there is a lot of cheaper option in 2nd bns,

nikon 300mm f4 old AF version
canon 400mm f5.6 L
current sigma, tamron 100-400mm or 150-600mm lens
or old sigma 150-500, 50-500

SGD650, possible to get zooms in Pentax mount. For eg, Sigma 135-400, Sigma 170-500, Tokina 80-400.
Or even very reasonaly priced Sigma 70-300 DG OS (f4 - 5.6 i think).
Also possible to get primes such as Pentax A 400mm, Tokina 400mm.

The lens count only up to some extent.
The rest, work with whatever you have.

And of course, can also choose to jump ship over Canon, Nikon, or even Olympus, Fuji etc.

@sunnycamera @felixcat8888 @Castor Troy

Thank you for the suggestions and links! Will work on them... :)

I frankly did not think the DA*300 to be available at $650... it goes for much higher.
A friend bought an F*300 at that rate (he was lucky I guess), and so placed that as guideline price on the ad.

The 150-500 is definitely on my mind... but is almost least 1kg heavier.
Definitely more of them available as used.

Haven't seriously thought of a second system... yes, few friends on other forums have jumped ship as there are more options elsewhere...

Regards,
SG

The FA*300 on carousell is a good buy, BUT the hood is very loose when attached. You will need the hood when birding (I know as I have birded before).

For the 150-500, you will need a very good tripod. You are not supposed to hand hold this monster lens.

@Termy

Perhaps I am expecting the lens to do magic... I do have a Tokina SD 400/5.6 (manual).

"work with whatever you have" - agreed!
:)

Thanks.

I do agree that Pentax Lenses are overpriced. Outdated oversized Lenses will be difficult to sell. I also don’t like dealing with price fixing cartel. Developments of Mirror-Less FF systems like Sony, Canon, Nikon & Fujifilm will see to the “Painful Death of DSLR”. I’m Glad that I am switching to the new Canon RP.

Price fixing cartel??? Have yet to be aware of any Pentax lenses price fixing cartel actually. OPEC maybe. Is a free market. People price preowned items as they wish. If buyers think is too high, then buyers can choose not to buy, or buy other choices. Price fixing cartel works only if like necessities, like maybe if one day Sunshine bread and Gardenia bread decide to collaborate and fix prices. Or telecom companies SingTel, StarHub and M1 collaborate and fix prices (god knows maybe they are doing it). But lenses?? Price fixing cartel for lenses??

Other may be Oblivious & Some may see it therefore "Caveat Emptor"

There is no price fixing as far as I know, but sellers sell according to the prices they deem fit. As long as condition is good, and the price is right, it is between buyer and seller to agree on the price. I bought my FA*85 at SGD$1518 and it is in near mint condition. Anything below SGD $1000 has user marks on it.

Man, you need to wake up.
Yes, i myself know that if looking for third party (ie Tamron, Sigma, Tokina) lenses in Pentax mount, they will cost more than in Nikon or Canon mount.
But to say that is price fixing by a cartel, you are living in lala-land.
And if indeed that's price fixing (which is so far fetched as to be quite lunacy), very simple, go get Pentax lenses, dont get third party Pentax mount lenses.
Or, just as you did, jump ship to Canon (or Nikon).
If you dont agree with the pricing, that doesnt necessarily mean there is "price fixing cartel".
Go figure what does "price fixing cartel" mean, before even thinking that term.

Good for you that you moved to Canon R.
But, again, that doesnt mean "price fixing cartel" yeah.

Gibis, try the DA HD 55-300 if you're using APS-C...
Nice output, although autofocus is noisy and slow

Thanks everyone!

As of now, my Sigma 100-300 F4 (which I don't get many 'keepers' from) has gone for service... I hope to get better results.

I will endeavour to improve my technique... and hope that cures my LBA :)

The price fixing topic can definitely be a full topic of its own on the forum!
I view pricing as a reflection of supply vs demand... but I do admit I am naive w.r.t. economics, finance etc :D
