Hello all,

I have been compilling my notes last couple of months for the process that I have gone through in running my business. What I have done right and what I have done wrong.

I have seen a lot of courses created to teach people "how to be proficient with photography technically" but doesn't seems to be anyone who is offering to teach people "how to run a successfull business in photography".

Once I have finished with compilling the notes, I am planning to offer that as part of the course.

Anyway, just a background info
... I started working as a photographer 6 years ago in Sydney and moved here just under 3 years. Never live in Singapore before that and practically know nothing about this country when I moved here.

So, we (me & my wife) started a portrait photography company specialising in Children photography only in March 2008 with a set up capital of $3000 and by the end of calendar year of 2008, we are just turn over 100k working from home without any studio in the first 10 months. During 2009 financial crisis, we manage to grow over 100% and we are looking at similar figure for 2010 (well, we have not done yet with 2010). We were told in the beginning that you can't "survive" in Singapore offering children photography and do nothing else.

Anyway, my intention is to help people who want to start their business in photography and start it right and people who have already started their business and believe they have a portfolio that sells to increase their sales volume.

So my question is, would anyone be interested?

It won't be cheap though as I am ready to share all it takes... but of course, you have to do something afterwards and this is not a quick rich method. I am projecting this to happen in January 2011 as we have started our busiest season.

Hart

How much, do you foresee, would cost to attend the course? :)

I will get WPAS to be involved in this so I can put some profit back to WPAS but won't happen so soon as I am just keeping myself slightly above water now.

Thanks for your offer though.

It will be steer around consumer based type of photography such as wedding and portrait. It won't benefit those who is in agency based or corporate type of work as it is a different world which I have not try to move into and don't have any plan of doing it.

Will see how it goes.

I don't know yet. It will really depend on how many there are who is interested and where I will have it. I might going for very small group so we could discuss the personal situation.

For me, I do spend quite a bit on upgrading myself and for every hard earn cash being lay out, I seems to be able to make many many folds from there. But shall have it a good think about it.

So if it is a 4 hr event, how much would one is willing to pay? Better to get some ideas too. So I don't surprise myself.

wow.. i would say your biz history is really impressive..
especially since u started in a foreign land..
i am sure yur course will be very beneficial to alot of people

cheers...

Thx Chris and William,

You guys have a tonnes of experiences and your images speak for themselves. There are more for me to learn but happy to share what I know at this point. There is element of luck as well I think, I still have lots of things to improve on but definitely like to share.

Let me get something organize.

By the way, I have said this but thought to say it again, this is no magic, just fundamental of business course to help anyone with open heart and mind to achieve more enjoyable working condition as professional photographer and educating public about the right way of doing business. I have a very normal IQ So this is really from my perspective.

If there is enough interest I might work harder to have this up and running sooner ( before end of this year) that is.

Oh, I am not ang mo by the way... I look more like a Singaporean... I am still don't know why people would think I am ang mo... Just in case you think that way too.

Regards,

Hart

Seriously guys....

I am looking to run this course to a target audience of people who is serious about running their business. Those who just want to check it out might not be suitable anyway.

In essence, I don't want to waste my and my audience time.

If I don't think I have good enough materials that reflect how I achieve my achievement in a very short period of time, I would rather not doing it. If I have good enough material, I won't be selling myself short. As it is, it looks pretty promising.

just put it in perspective, I know I use abt 4-5 hours on average to do 1 portrait session and I kwow my average charge for that period of time... So it will be around that figure. I will just need to know how many is serious about attending so I can do the sum.

Compare to my write-up on my business blog tomatobiz.blogspot.com, it will be a lot more elaborate and beyond those basics with real life example.

I have receive very promising amount of PM regarding this, but I shall wait till I have complete my materials.
