1 carats normal grade or brand new 1ds mk3 + 1 high end lens.
0.5 carats normal grade or brand new D700

which one worth it?

I classified as normal/standard meaning those selling in SK or even Taka..

those high end good colour 1 carat diamond can easily cost more then 20k.

If my whole relationship with a woman in marriage is pivotal on how big a darn rock I should give her..I say the relationship is going off on a a wrong foot. Might as well end it there and then. They may say how "deep" the representation of "our" love for her would be but to me that is plain "shallow". Why are we buying into this so called time honoured marketing ploy that should have died with the middle ages long ago. Sure back then it was harder to at diamonds but these days you can even make them or kill lots of folks forcing them to mine them for you and yes the diamond cartel that control and artificially inflate their prices to you.

It is not just we men who are victim to it...so are the women really. The problem is not whether it is 'worth' buying it for a woman. The real question is why? If the lady can answer the "why" then maybe it is worth buying it for her...if her answer to "why" emotionally connects with you.

Not bitter mind you but that's just me and diamonds.

That was my sentiment too... before marriage! :bsmilie:

As men, we may never quite understand the woman's point of view, but I'm guessing the quality and impressiveness of the darn rock means a lot to them.

Citing the instance of my wife; she doesn't buy expensive, branded or luxurious things for herself (her only hobbies and things she does when she's free are bake, and garden). But when it came to the issue of the rock after engagement years ago, while she made it very clear she was happy with whatever I could afford (then), there was no mistaking in her eyes the occasional envy when she compared the rock to her friends / sisters-in-laws etc.

So there you have it. While it's nice to be unwavering in our principles of love, I think there's a very realistic dimension in this regard here. Or that's what my experience has told me anyway. :)

If my whole relationship with a woman in marriage is pivotal on how big a darn rock I should give her..I say the relationship is going off on a a wrong foot. Might as well end it there and then. 0.5 carats normal grade or brand new D700
Budget for the 1.2-1.5 carat normal/mid grade and then

a) buy 0.8-1.0 carat normal/mid grade AND
b) D700

been there done that hehehe. Both people happy.

Never underestimate the power of the rock ;)
