Have a D90 + kit lens (18-105),
would it be wise (wiser) to trade the kit lens and get a 17-50 F2.8 as replacement?

currently is 50mm F1.8 hearing pple saying worth keeping still
having a 70-300 but didnt realy use much so far but intend to keep in case of distance snipering

thinking of a UWA like tokina 11-16 +
not sure would getting a tamron 90mm acting as portrait + macro lens but is 17-50 worth the trade?

if you really desire the wide and constant aperture f/2.8, then the Tammy is the most affordable option.
Personally I think the 18-105 is great, but it all depends on what you are trying to shoot I guess. 18-105 is a versatile focal range.

so opinion is not realli good?
ya i feel 18-105 is very versatile if i go oversea, i would bring a wide angle and the kit
but just dilemma if 17-50 f2.8 would be better (i mean in term of portrait ya) but in term of usual daily shots.

the 17-50 f2.8 is a nice lens
good to have but will not let you do things that you can already do
while adding a UWA will give you perspectives that you currently cannot do
so get the UWA first and ad the 17-50 f2.8 later

17-50 f/2.8 is a bit short and no VR.
If I were you I could prpbably get the Tokina 11-16 for UWA shots and keep the 18-105 VR.
Maybe I'm rich enuf on the future then I get the 24-70 & 70-200 f/2.8 Variant.

That's just my view.

Just wan to share my thinking..

I will get the UWA, keep the 18-105 if u wan,
I dun c much in 17-50 f2.8 cuz u hav 50 1.8…anything is just few step away…

My idea might not suit ur shooting style…
To me… I only need UWA, a fix lens(50mm or 35mm for DX) and a tele(even 200mm will do).
For mrico … tele lens + closeup filter will do..i dun shot much mrico …
But if u like mrico..should be a decent mrico lens…

Cheap is good… that me…wahaha

your quote is somehow interesting to me, like penetrating into my mind
ya, my gf is asking me to get a uwa rather than anything else.

ya think 50mm will stick to me now. but given my current 70-300, i get a closeup filter helps? not serious into macro but looking at things in some angle (up and close) is also part of my interest.

bro akagi07, u got all the lens i have exactly..
personal i think is getting a UWA lens (tokina 11-16mm) that i got today... haha..

keep 15-105 lens. is a very very good lens.. i wun trade it for 17-50mm lens. as i hav 50mm f1.8 lens already.
get the UWA and get mirco attachment, then u can snap most of the things already

Sometimes u need to ask urself what u really like to shoot & usually shoot ?
For what u go & buy all the focal length but maybe

(1) buy a UWA but u only shoot WA & landscape 5% of ur time ?
(2) buy a macro lens but u shoot macro 5% of ur time ?
(3) keep the 18-105 when u only travel 1 time in a year (another 5% ?)

Where in ur heart u really like to shoot portrait & use >80% of ur shooting time
do ur own calculation then u will know which lens type to upgrade,

Also, dun know why u need to consider what ur gf 's decision ?
(1) Is she paying for the lens ?
(2) She is using the camera most of the time ?
(3) She have a better knowledge of camera equipment than u ?

Above does not applied,
(1) if u have a unlimited budget
(2) Is a lens collector
(3) GF means everything to u

actually at times, even if you did your calculation, you will find jus something missing, unreachable, and though I may not have fully utilised my 70-300

no she is not pay, nope she is not using mostly, nope she doesnt for third but at times, she did use.

limited, not a serious lens collector, and lastly, not everything but she is the one I love, and seriously I'm not sure if bro horizon_grazer had gf/wife, no offense but sometimes, its also a part of fun with your partner playing ard with the cam and get pictures you may not get.

afterall, getting a uwa is also my intention, so its not about GF or not GF's desire
