Looks like after the long wait for the above lens, the cost will go up by more than 10%.
Do you think the price is reasonable bearing in mind it was only 300+ a year ago and now it will cost around $550 (the last price was around $490). Like to have some views/comments on this.

If you die die need one and cannot get on the B&S then no other choice . . .

But if you dun need one then give it a miss. The thing is that prices have generally gone up so there is no choice . . .

Last Mar to Dec the US$ to Yen was dropping.
But since Jan this year, the US$ to Yen has be gradually increasing.
Therefore the price increase may not be due to the Yen becoming stronger?

I bought mine cos it was like everyone was having one then. but after using the lens for 3 years i found that it is a specialised lens that i use only occassionaly like sample, big head and low light shots. for sample i prefer the macro version and under low light i found that it is too short for performance and too narrow for event. but when the purpose suits the characteristic of this special lens, it is 天下无敌, it has no peers.

back to the TS question, i wont pay a premium for this lens if i dont have it. since i have it, i wont sell either cos it is a "niche" lens that i enjoy using once in a while. photography is a hobby, so i wont buy or sell lenses based on their utility value... :sweatsm:

long wait?

i thought it was always around.

yes, it is sad that it is not cheaper than the other brand equivalents, but that's just how it is.

it's not as if you bought into pentax for nothing other than the fa 50mm f/1.4 right? :)

Don't wait ... for the extra 150 more, which in any case isn't going down, you would have many shots to show for! I am loving mine, even though sometimes you would feel that it's a little soft wide open ...

Good to know you are keeping it! I shouldn't have sold it to you back then ... :mad2: ... after going 1 big round, I still ended up with it!

welll dun think the price will drop...Pentax have already make the camera cheap, maybe they shift the profit margin to the lenses..

No stock for more than a month if I remember right.
Many recommend this lens - something like a must have (maybe because of the low light, fast lens).
How much would this matters now that we have higher ISO available on the Kx?
Well, still deciding which lens - a new one (I think more suited for those with poorer eyesight) versus a much cheaper used M or A 50 f1.4 lens
which requires manual focusing.

i mulled over it too...

alternatives includes:

Sigma 30mm or 50mm f1.4, which are bigger, heavier and not cheap as well...

Pentax DA* 55mm f1.4, which costs abt twice that price :bheart:

the FA 50 is still an ok choice if it suits your needs.

I sold mine months back, the big things is you can't have everything, so I learned to renounce that len, but my 43, is superb and more reliable in low light conditions and as well as harsh daylights..

thanks for letting me have the lens and the wonderful helio filter. i missed the first deal on the FA50/1.4 in b&s 3 years ago... until you come along and save my LBA for this wonderful lens. i remember seeing your ad & calling you frantically to reserve the lens :embrass:

Have you checked all the usual shops? Maybe one of them still keeping some or last piece.

Checked all the regular shops like Manly, SLR, Cathay, Alan, Orient, MS - all no stock.
There is one in Sim Lim which quoted me about $600 but he did not even have a sample to show me (maybe one of those tactics they use to convince you to buy some other lens/cameras - I just walk away lo).

Sure bo, Bro? 43 more reliable in low light? Got such things 1 ah ? ... I got 43 b4 and I know it's much 'better' than the 50 at 1.4 ... :blah:

Can i ask what are the differences between the 43 and 50 beside the focal length?

So happy with mine for $340 bought in March last year :)

Last month i tried to find this lens for wks. Those shops which we go often, all no stocks . But i was lucky , managed to get it from cs bns ;p
