i have a s45. wanna know if a 2x teleconverter will double the optical zoom? and if i stack on will there be any quality loss?

If your camera lens is 35~105mm, that is a 3X zoom (105/35 = 3).
When you attach a 2X teleconvertor, the effective focal length becomes 70~210mm. The zoom factor is still 3X (210/70 = 3).
The total range available to you, considering the camera lens with and without the 2X convertor, becomes 35~210mm, which is 6X.
The main difference between your setup versus one with a native 6X zoom lens is that you cannot zoom smoothly from 35mm all the way to 210mm. You'd have to attach and remove the 2X teleconvertor to get that kind of zoom range.

i think its like without the tc u range is within the 1 to 3x zoom. once u attach the tc u get 4 to 6 x zoom. but with the tc attached u cannot go back down to 1 to 3 x.

Btw, with some TC u may not be able to enjoy full zooming due to vignetting. So while u may be able to shoot at 6x, u may get vignetting if u zoom out. Again, this depends on the TC u use.
