1. in what area is critique to be sought?
Composition, post-processing

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
Make a flat photo "pop out" using post processing and cropping

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
Hot day with overcast sky at botanic gardens. Was trying to make pond pictures less bland till i noticed a wild flower

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
Too bluish? Overly bright and luminous leaves in the foreground?
My problem is I don't know what is the problem with this photo. I would like advice on how I can improve this photo.

Your subject is to tiny in the flame tho the color stands out.

Make a flat photo "pop out" using post processing and cropping
Get more closer. eliminate all the unwanted element

The foliage in the background is underexposed

follow your heart, many time your initial thought is correct.

me no pro, also learning bit by bit ... just my 2cents worth

-- whilst there's obviously a subject in the photo, it doesn't "stand out" ... going closer may help?
-- i think for this shot, you need to decide whether you want the landscape or you want the flower

-- same as catchlights, i think getting closer and let the flower fill up more of the screen will help, i see a very nice cloud and greenery reflections in the water which could have been a nice background for the flower (contrast in colour)

-- day shots will always have over-exposed skies and under-exposed backgrounds (in this case the trees) ... always a challenge for me too

-- colour is dependent on you, the photo is yours, you get to decide the "mood" ... i usually just have it closest to what i feel is the "real" colour my eyes witnessed
-- one way to improve photo is to do it slowly ... focus on the "beautiful foreground things = subject" first, then see which direction to shoot produces the best lighting and background to fit this subject ... that's probably how i would do it =)
