# Wide Angle??? True??? Pls Advise.

Hi guys,

I am also curious & like to experiment a lot.

Recent i have just compare some of my cameras with a Wide Angle Lens of 0.8X!

They are put in the exact same position.

Camera A Lens 14mm

Camera B Lens 28mm

If I add a WideAngleLen 0.8X on "Camera B at 28mm" should it be 20mm??
*Asumming 28mm-8mm=20mm*

But Adding to 0.8X to CamB, I found some side barrels, therefore i adjust lens to about 32mm Originally.

Means 32mm - 0.8X W.Lens. Do i get 32mm-8mm = 24mm??

I have compare with CamA Lens at 14mm & CamB at 24mm*with W.Lens

Results CamB*24mm produce wider results than CamA *14mm...

Why is that so??? I really cant get it unless i am very wrong.

You don't minus, the 0.8 means a factor of your focal length.
Therefore 28mm + 0.8x = 28 x 0.8 = 22.4mm
32mm + 0.8x = 32 x 0.8 = 25.6mm

You may want to state what camera A & B are and where you get the focal length from. Different sensor size makes a difference in angle of view.

Er, do you happen to have a full-frame DSLR and a non-full-frame DSLR?

Or well, DSLRs with different crop factors?

You know, somehow I'm getting this feeling that you're not actually giving lens focal lengths, but something else, hrm.

Well Actually Camera A is a DSLR with 14mm lens at widest.

Camera B is a Prosumer Bridge camera with 28mm With a 0.8X Wide Lens

I am certain about the length setting as its indicated directly from both lens.

DSLR at 14mm
Bridge Cam at 28mm + 0.8 W.Lens.

Both Camera place at the exact distance & direction

I am quiet suprise when i see the results... :dunno:

Or how about this? What are the models of the cameras that you are comparing? Or is it the same camera with different lenses? This will help a lot.

Camera A Produce a much Wider Angle compared with Camera B....

Camera A is what model?

28 mm on prosumer bridge will be accurate, must take crop factor of DSLR into account, for example, my Pentax K100D has a crop factor of X1.5, so 18-55 becomes 27 to 80+ mm.

Most common is x1.6, x1.5.. So 14mm will become 21. But it should still be wider. Unless you're using an Olympus or another 4/3 DSLR? Then crop factor will be x2.0 if I'm not wrong. Giving you 28mm. Which means your bridge camera with wide angle convertor will become wider.

I can't think of another explanation, gah.

Unless you tell us the exact model names of your cameras, we can't pinpoint the cause.

Camera A is using Zuiko Lens. at 14-45mm...

Camera B is Fujifilm s9600 with Olympus "Huge" 0.8 Wide Angle Lens....

For me, i only know how to take pictures. not too much in specification technically.

I am more used to those prosumers than DSlrs due to Video Functions... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Try this, set the DSLR at 14mm and Fuji cam at 28mm.
In theory, both cam should be at 28mm due to their corp factor. Take a picture and see if they show the same amount of wide angle.

The given spec of the corp factor of the Olympus cam is 2x. By computation, fiji cam corp factor is about 4.516.
