Make sure to get the version 2 for 11-16 if choosing that. Version 1 doesn't have AF on a D3100

is the version 2 even out?

Ha ha look like the wide angle lens much more expansive then the body :)

But for I will go on 16-85mm VR should be good enough, one lens in hand can do more thing..

if not a 17-50 (also consider a wide angle lens)

How wide do you want or need?

I would go with the tokina 11-16mm best quality for its price. Dont worry about auto focusing. It is easy enough to manual focus since its such a wide angle. Make use of the range finder and you'll do fine. Besides you'll be focusing at infinity most of the time anyway if landscape shots are your thing

Easy to focus yes, always infinity, I don't think so.. Not even most of the time, hyper focusing is the way to go man.

ya seen like its the case :(

18-55 is the kit lens right? It's a WA also.

for wide angle on a cropped body, preferably 10mm or 11mm

you mean half frame body, 10-11mm will be better?

It's called cropped frame. Aps-c. It's actually 1/1.5 or 1/1.6 of full frame.

Calling it half frame is plain wrong unless you're talking about m43 with 1/2 of full frame.
