Why the Canon 80D mark II is exciting

According to the Canonwatch rumor site, the 80D mark 2 will be launched this year. The reason why Canon is breaking from the incremental X0D nomenclature is that there is only 1 more digit left to go before it hits 100D which already exists.
In any case, the original 80D is a very special camera for videographers because it is the only Canon APS-C DSLR with a headphone port and a fully articulating screen. However, some of its shine has been eclipsed by the new EOS-M5 and M50 that scored a one up with their EVFs. Unbeknownst to many EOS-M converts, however, Canon has quietly tweaked the mic port of the M5, M6 and M50 so that they cannot record true stereo tracks. This is likely done to prevent prosumer users from recording inputs from 2 mics onto 2 separate tracks using a mixer.

Hopefully, the new 80D mark2 will retain the true stereo port of the mark 1 and also level up to the newer features of the M5/6/50 such as e-IBIS and focus peaking. That will make the EOS 80D mark II a very usable video camera with or without 4K. If the size can be reduced to that of the 200D, it will be a hot seller. But,being a DSLR, an EVF is naturally still out of the question.
