Why my monitor just freeze?

Really appreciate those computer wizards to help me out...why my screen just freeze..cursor not moving...I would have to re-start. This usually happens after 10 to 15 mins of use..could it be hardware or software?? I am using window XP...BTW I am using a self built computer (AMD chip) could it be the system is over heating?

have u try in safe mode? issit the same?

Install MotherBoard Monitor to help you monitor the CPU temperature to see if it is heating problem. It can also help you to check if how fast your CPU fan is spinning (in rpm) Normally the CPU fan should spin faster than 5000 rpm. A good CPU fan is important for AMD chips (known to be hotter than Intel)

Beside fan can use software to help cool the CPU. Try CPUIdle. It is a software that will issue halt (or suspend) command to the CPU when it is waiting for other devices like keyboard, harddisk or mouse etc to respond. It is like temporary stopping the CPU and can help the CPU cool down a lot. I am using an AMD Athlon 1.3 GHz. Without CPUIdle, my CPU temp is 56 degree or higher. With CPUIdle, it is constantly below 50 degree.

Actually if you are using Win2k or WinXP there's no need to use software idling, as the OS already has the same function.

the problem is software. i suspect u've got a rouge/corrupted program running in the background and it somehow executes an illegal or infinitely recursive code after that 10-15 mins.

try a safemode virus scan and adware scan first.

possibility of a system overheat is very low as motherboards have features to powerdown once a certain temp is reached. and a CPU overheat will most likely have killed the CPU so you wont be able to start the com up again.

anyway, likuan i still have to return u the side straps from ur 400AW bag.. i lost ur contact... argh!

I stripped the CPU, put a table fan next to it. An hour has passed without any problem...so far so good...i guess i need to add a box fan to cool the system.
