Why do people label large aperture lens as fast lenses:confused: Do they autofocus faster? If so due to wad reasons?

With a larger aperture, it allows more light to go in and hence, the ability to use a faster shutter speed.

Also because large aperture lenses cost so much that your wallet and bank account empty out very FAST! :bsmilie:

well said :D the cheapest fast lens that still retain your wallet is 50mm f1.8

First, a camera will focus faster as the aperture is larger during focusing which allow more light to enter. In this case you might read before slow lens hunting for focus.

Second, since it allow more light. You can shoot at a faster shutter.

there are exceptions though .. the 85Lmki/ii is pretty slow compared to its f1.8 cousin ..

cos when you use large aperture lenses, the faster the xmm will throw out a victory sign.

big lens and xmm doing victory signs sound wrong.
