Who has thought of converting your photography skill into a cash cow?

i think most of us started photography as hobby/interest/fun ...

wondering who convert it to a money - making / professional career?

For myself, I shoot bcos I find it fun (for myself, family, friends) and all for my bro and sis-in-Christ (helping them..we are one family )

i find i enjoy photography more as a hobby leh.

it is totally different from what many thinks it is like,unless u are shooting fine art and stock.
doing it commercially is just shooting wad the customer wants,not wad u like..
when u feel this shot is **** S*** Customer say nice,u also say nice..

involves alot of PR and marketing skills..

i do mostly events shoot and company DND,dun really enjoy doing it,just treat it as another job..

my passion still lies in traditional photography,handling all the developing and printing.
Digital just dun give me that kick for now..

I agree and share the same view with kex... Also prefer traditional photography as it is what I grew up learning photography to be, even though I spend quite a lot on it. Ironically it is digital photography that helped me earn some cash doing free lance.

When hobby turns into a job. There will be times when you can't compromise between what you like to shoot and what you are requested to shoot.

A balance is quite difficult to achieve as you need to understand a job means $$$ and a hobby means freedom to express.

Unless one you become a Picasso of photography. When whatever you take calls the shot.

Beware that a job may kill your interest, uness you know the balance. :dunno:

Anyway, a hobby is meant to be fun fun fun. :lovegrin:

After seeing the works of PointBlankShots, I don't dare to dream of being a professional photographer anytime soon. Would prefer to have a normal day job while freelancing with simple paid shoots eg. product shoots or weddings and whatever else I can handle. Learning too slowly to make it a full-time job.

well bro ben,

there are many fields in Photography and not any one field(photojournalism, portraiture, products.. etc.) is considered the easier or the tougher option.

it varies from photographer to photographer. some just specialise in certain areas and will never cross path into another field.

but product and wedding/event photography are perhaps the most accessible and has the most saturated market.

keep the passion alive!

Photography is like a friend...hmm...actually more like a girlfriend cos it drains me dry (in terms of money) and yet makes me happy.

Talk money hurt feeling (though it would be good if my girlfriend is rich, but thats another thing altogether). Money cant buy happiness, so lets just keep the relationship simple.

Personally for me, it'll be an 'on-off' thing once I've gained more confidence to shoot better photos.

A balance between my hobby and the occasional job once in a while, for a little pocket money. I can't live off a single pay for this particular hobby as my pay's pretty low.

Hint: My monthly pay is only the cost of a single cheapest range of a L lens.
