Just wondering. I have seen some other ppl's lenses (most notably on the L canon zooms lens) with the focusing and zoom rubber rings having some whitish residue on it...I wonder what causes it and is it easy to clean off? This is also more common on older/used lenses than newer ones. Have seen this phenomena on some old/used lenses in 2nd hand shop displays too. My guess is its caused by salt from sweat on the palms? Anyone can enlighten? Thanks in advance...

I believe it the salt left behind when our presperation evaporation.

Well next time you see it, maybe you can taste it and see if I'm telling the true.... just for the sake of it ok?
