Should I get Nikon D70s body + third party 18-200mm zoom lens or
Canon 400D kit. Both have almost the same price.

I would suggest getting 400D. 400D is a newer model with higher MP. D70s' replacement model, D80 is already out, so, it'll likely drop in value quite sharply.

That being said, the kit lens of 400D certainly has room for improvement. Maybe you can save up for a better lens to suit your shooting style?

The Canon kit lens has been widely reported as junk.

The Nikon kit lens (the older one, 18-70) is quite a good performer, some even said produced professional results. Don't know about the newer kit lens (18-135), you should check it out.

The D80 is roughly equivalent of the 400D.

Lens is more important than body.

i want to have a dlsr with 18-200mm range.
no need to change lens.
but the nikon's vr lens is expensive.
i d70 is the only "body only" on sale.

The Canon kit lens is only 18-55...
How you equate it to a 18-200mm??

Anyway, you can buy either system and get the 18-200 from Sigma or Tamron, if you find the nikon VR lens is too exp.

buy the canon EOS400d. Junk the kit, get a better lens which will suit your needs. By the way, canon has manymany good lenses you can invest on!

Why not buy body only and get a lens to suit yourself ?

Canon and Nikon are not the only 2 players in the game. To name another ...Olympus.

Buy what feels and reacts right for you and then buy lens to suite.

Don't be fooled by the same rantings such as ... Mitsubishi is better than Nissan or Honda etc.

Keep an open mind. go by feel.

kit lens under good users produce good photos.

you wont know what lens is used to take a picture unless you mention or there are really some pros out there.

who knows you can even get paid for assignments by using only the kit.

well...VR lens maybe expensive..

But cost aside...picture quality and build is top notch for that range...

Spend a little more time saving for the lens...
