read my sticky

you don't seem to know what you want.. that is bad

but anyways, if you want wideness (landscapes), you'd have to stick to fujifilm prosumers. or maybe olympus. but to be honest, i do not think much of olympus prosumers, though they can produce good photos, like any other camera.

well, might have to change the statement now as fz18 is equipped with the "28-504mm" lens now unlike the previous model

Streets scenes and landscapes hmmm why not start off with a decent yet cheap dslr (2nd hand) and a simple walk about lens .. which i say could put you off at a total of around 700-900 bucks.

Performance wise i reckon should be better than a prosumer.

actually i think fuji prosumers are limited by the lack of a wideangle option like 28mm.. which will be very useful for taking landscapes..

qingkai -> will greatly depend on ts's budget and needs.. i was initially contemplating to get a 2nd hand dslr with kit lens too.. but i reckon that with that same amount of cash i can get a decent prosumer to learn with + a sturdy tripod + a couple of filters and still be able to get an additional compact pns for parties.. which i did in the end.. got a S5700 and a second hand F30 for around 700 in total.. though i did sacrifice on the performance la.. =)

to ts -> you might want to read brother night86mare's sticky.. full of useful qnas which i'm sure you'll have thought of if you had..

If you don't have anything particular in mind, anything is a good find.

Any camera can take resonably good street scenes and landscapes. What you've suggested belongs to about the same genre of prosumers. If you don't have a constant to fall back on (brand loyalty, existing menus, types of battery or memory cards etc), I would suggest you go down to the stores and try them out. :)

if you treat the D40 as a prosumer

just the body and lens kit with the freebie tripod and SD card
you will no longer have a problem

If what you're looking for is quality, then a prosumer wouldn't hold a candle anywhere near a dSLR. But if you're looking for features with limited budgets, then a prosumer would shine.

You're right about the never-ending investments, but to be fair, it's because of the user, not the dSLR camera. I know and had succumbed to BBB virus - scouring through the B&S even if I've got nothing specific to buy!

Happy hunting! ;)

All prices at SITEX, IT Show, Comex will be at RRP (Recommended Retail Prices) the same as prices at HN, BD and Courts.

Go to Sitex 2007 with an open mind and look and shop for what you want then go to our recommended shops to get a better deal.

Last Comex, I saw the Fuji S6500FD at $599. Then went to my favourite place and got it at $550.
