You could read about 'Sunny 16' rule and do some maths.

Bright sunny noon with F/1.4 @ speed 1/40? I'm feeling weird with this figure...
Its to get motion blur w shallow DOF during that lighting condition.
Have to use ND filters to block out light so that the camera does not overexpose.

Thks Octarine, I'll c if sunny 16 helps..

Anyone has experience shot that b4?

oic. I thought you metered with that figure before you apply ND filter.

assuming you are able to get a correct exposure @ 1/4000 with an aperture of your choice (F/1.4 I suppose).
You can apply ND128 or ND256 to reach 1/40 or 1/20. These are 7 & 8 stops filter respectively. Maybe ND fader can help you but I doubt because these are the higher extreme ends of the lower stops Fader, which you will face the cross mark issue...

Sunny f16 rule,
subject under direct sunlight with distinct shadows, exposure will be at f16, speed is same as what ISO you use, eg, speed=1/200, ISO=200 also.

f16, 1/200s, ISO200
f11, 1/200s, ISO200
f8, 1/200s, ISO200
f5.6, 1/200s, ISO200
f4, 1/200s, ISO200
f2.8, 1/200s, ISO200
f1.4, 1/200s, ISO200
f1.4, 1/100s, ISO200
f1.4, 1/50s, ISO200

you can use the Hoya ND400, which cut down 9stops of light.

hope this help.

I would not have thot I'm even looking at cutting so many stops

Fader ND Ultra looks interesting, it supposedly cuts 9-12stops..bt hmm pricey

I would avoid any of the variable NDs for 9 stops.

Just go with Hoya ND400. Whatever the shutter speed metered without filter, just multiply by 400 and you will get the shutter speed with filter on.
