Hi all,
I know this has been discussed many times. But I would really like some advice from fellow CSers...

Going to Beijing this Dec. Not sure what to bring. I hope to be light weighted and not bring too much. Here's my gear:

- D300
- 17-55 2.8
- 18-200VR
- 60 2.8 Macro
- 12-24 4.0
- SB800

I'm thinking of bringing the 18-200VR, 12-24 and SB800 should be alright as there's nothing much for macro shots. Any advice?

Cheers

it depends how long you be staying there and what kind of shots you are looking for.

if landscape then may need to bring tripod and if got events then may need flash and battery charger.....

actually, are we allowed to bring tripod? Hand carry right?

D300, 12-24, 18-200, SB800, tripod, all necessary accessories like batteries chargers adapters.

Cheers,
Zexun

OK. so I have to include bringing a tripod along... Would a monopod be ok or a tripod is better?
depends on your comfort zone. rule of thumb is tripod can become a monopod but monopod cannot become a tripod.

D300 with 17-55 for street shooting (normally 60-80% of the time using this)
12-24 for landscape + tripod would be good.
+ SB800

Individual preferences. I am the kind that loves a longer reach when travelling and yet cover grounds for the wider end.

- 18-200VR
- 12-24 4.0
- SB800
and the tripod for me.

There is no right or wrong in other choices, boils down to how u usually shoot.

Thank you for all the advice. 12-24, sb800 and tripod confirmed.

18-200 VR - Wonderful for the reach. The VR help a lot. Optically not as good as the 17-55...
17-55 2.8 - Beautiful lens. The 2.8 is one drawing factor. No VR. only up to 55mm...

Sigh! I just can't bring all lenses out. Too heavy already!!!

As much as the 17-55 f2.8 has lovely bokeh, imho, i'll leave it at the hotel room for the day and bring the 18-200VR together with the wide-angle :). Maybe you can bring it around when it's darker?

Sb800, 12-24 and 17-55.... this is what i would bring based on my shooting style.... up to u to decide based on ur shooting style ultimately...

My shooting style varies. Whatever the opportunity calls for. Afterall, when you are traveling, you don't know what's coming up next.
