Which Digi Cam is better for money

asking on behalf of a friend.
Can anyone recommend me a good digi cam which cost <$1000?

Fujifilm Finepix F601 ~ $900
Olympus C-2040Z + 64mb SM ~ $700+

I feel that if u want to take good pics, get one with higher megapixels.. >3 mp ...like the F601

So how much is a brand new G2 cost?
