have been using SONY DSC-P8 for few years and decided to upgrade.

I have shortlisted the following
. CANON IXUS 960 IS
. CANON POWERSHOT A650 IS
. NIKON COOLPIX P5100
. PANASONIC LUMIX FX100

would like hear some opinion to help decide which to purchase.

thanks

For compact cameras, I usually buy Canon. I would advise you to get a IXUS for style and fuction and the powershot for more functions, but less style. Nikon doesn't make really good compacts and Panasonic's Noise control is bad. It's lenses are good though.

Steer clear from lumix unless you like noise in your pics. You can't go wrong with Canon, it's compacts are worth more than what you've paid for.

I have used 2 Pana PNS since 5years ago. My first L1 & FZ3 were good camera if you are into day shooting & telezoom. But the noise start to appear when u try to increase the ISO for night shot or indoor shoot. Build quality for Pana cameras are OK.

The Sony T200 is pretty good too.

thanks for all the replies.
went 'H#@v&y #@$%^n to check out the cameras......lousy sales person:eek:...

anyway...has got a feel (physically one cos no battery was included) of both canon ixus 960 & A650...kinda like the A650
