I'm quite new to digital cams.
Looking to get a cam with at least 10x optical, have seen a few models,
Olympus C750, Fujifilm S5000, Panasonic Z1.
Which model is better? Or are there other models to recommend?
Also there seems to be many models of the olympus C700 series, does the older models does the job well?
Is there any models with both good wide angle and good optical zoom?
Cos for me, those 3x and 4x optical zoom are definitely not enough.
Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

I think he is referring to Powershot S1 IS that comes with 10X optical zoom, the Pro 1 got no IS but comes with 7x optical zoom.
S1 is around $880++ still within your budget :)

Normally super tele zoom digicam usually produce soft image at the zoom end. CA is also quite common in long zoom cam. also if you were to use long zoom, it is advisable to use a tripod. my 0.02cents :)

C-750 UZ

* 4.0 MP
* 10x Optical Zoom
* 40x with Digital Zoom
* ED Lens to minimise CA
* Availability of Flash Hot-Shoe
* Super Macro Mode of 3cm
* Live Histogram

Thanks for all the input.
So now have 3 cams to compared.

Any comments?

IMO, i think spec wise, Olympus C-750 seem better loh. But at the end of the day, it realli up to urself to decide. If i have the money to buy this 3.. i might thinking of getting fuji or even canon set because it seem more comfort 2 hold.

Pan Z10 12x zoom, leica lens, IS as well. Try it.

Not sure about C750, but my C730 failed me. It got a very serious shuttle lag. Would you like to comment on C750?

how about the Canon Pro90IS? Got 370mm and IS also. Most importantly you can get it for less than $500 (?) in the 2nd hand market.

I had the Olympus C750UZ for several months b4 I sold it off to get my new camera. I would rate it very high. Images are sharp and colors are vivid. If you are interested in macros, get a flash, snap on a +4 filter and you can get quite amazing results. It feels great in my hands too. The only drawback is the expensive xD picture card.
