Where to find nice used pentax lenses?

Anyone knows where I can find some nice 2nd hand pentax lenses? I'm looking for a nice cheap macro lens. Mannual focus preferred. I checked out a couple of cashconverter, but they don't have prime macro lens. Ebay will take sometime before getting it.

Thanks, but I'm looking for >=50mm. Insect macro requires some distance. I'll let you know if I changed my mind

if you search under ebay there's this manual vivitar/pheonix or whatever brand it is labelled as which is pretty decent and wayyyy too sharp for the price. 100mm focal distance.

It comes with an add on enlarger filter to do a 1:1.

Let me take some pictures of it and post some samples shots as well. Really cheap and good.

Thanks. I know vivitar is pretty decent. But pheonix I doubt they produce good lens. I won an auction today for a sears (KR mount) 135mm F2.8. Gonna need to use vpost to bring it in, so I'll need to wait for some time before I can get it But it's cheap US$15.01 + US$6.05 (US shipping) + Vpost charges <S$20. Damage about S$55.

Since the 50mm is such a sharp lens, will reversing it for macro produce similarly sharp images ? My guess is that it allows you to get very close to the subject... increasing the manification.

I had one before, not really a good option for macros IMO. When you mount the 50mm lens reversely, you have to stop it down to F8 and slower to get decent DOF (so you can keep the target in focus), and at F8 and slower, the viewfinder will become very dark. Can't see much at all, very hard to do manual focus, even when a tripod is used.

Here are some samples I took w/ Ds+50mm lens reversed:

Better get a couple of ext tubes to work w/ your 50mm lens I think, if you don't want to buy a dedicated macro lens.

I was just like you before, but now I don't buy anything that I don't use anymore. Better keep the money for something you really need

For insect macros, you'd better get a lens at least 90mm long. The Tamron 90/2.8 macro is a great one. Otherwise you can opt for a Pentax DFA100/2.8. If you use the lens exclusively for bugs/insects, better get a Sigma/Tamron 180/3.5 1:1 macro lens

The Pentax A/FA* 200 F4 macro lens is the best, but hard to find, and not easy to your wallet either

Thanks I used a tripod, and it was very close, probably less than 10cm away.

That one from eBay is a normal manual 1:1 (but might be a 1:2 w/ an extender for 1:1) macro lens, should be okay. There is no bad macro lens, so this one should work well too.

Best best vivitar macro lens is the Vivitar Series I ...

That's a good macro TC, but the seller is asking for too much I think. Even the A version doesn't cost that much. Better find the A version (w/ green marks instead of blue marks as the one above).

But seriously, I will not be using the samyang as it serves no purpose for me but this was a lens my uncle passed to me for safekeeping when he was diagnosed with cancer, so I guess he wants me to safekeep it for him. You're welcome to loan it to try it out, of course!

The Sigma lens may be a manual lens but I'm keeping that one because its like an astro scope to me!

If you are interested in the vivitar...do let me know...special price..+ 1 cup of coffee from me...heh heh

If you're into macro photography, do a check for "tchuanye" under the macro photography section. He uses an Panasonic FZ10 but IMHO, his shots are the best I have come across in clubsnap, even better than those taken using DSLRs. Otega's ones are also not bad.

Ya, the Sigma 600mm is like a super portable 'astrograph' for you. These things are hard to find now, just like my classical cassegrain scope.

As for the Vivitar, let me find out more about it and evaluate my need for it (I'm scratching the buying itch ... thanks to advice from Fengwei). Must differentiate 'needs' and 'wants'.
