almost every time the lens is mounted... cos you view thru the viewfinder with it wide open... its effectively using f1.8 to focus so that the AF system don't hunt... u pay much more for a f1.4 but shoot at f8 is the same equation...

it's the default lens on my cam. so yeah, almost every so often i use it

It is a nice workable lens. Cant compare with the 50L though as the latter cost 2k.

But for its price, it certainly is a great bargain. why worry? just snap on and have fun with it.
