im asking cuz i might be covering a wedding when i get back to sg in May... and all i have is my kit 18-70mm, 50mm and my 200-400 which i think is too much zoom for a wedding ceremony :S dont have anything in-between 70-200 and i dont have money for a 70-200vr :S got spare batts, spare cf cards, SB800 but missing that lens... so i'm wondering what you guys use to get some ideas :)

camera
fast lens 16 to 180mm
flash & Batt pack
lots of battery
CF and SD
greycard
bag

Make the best out of your current equipment set-up. There'll be not much help if I tell u that I'm using my D2H n S2Pro, 17-35 & 70-200, SB800 and SB80-DX, 4 1G & 4 512MB CF Cards for most of my wedding coverage, rite?

Get some ideas = Getting new lens?? :bsmilie:

I think ur current stuffs are good enough. Not to worry too much. Too many lenses and 1 body also troublesome. Den by that time, you might as well get another D70. :bsmilie: The main purpose for carrying 2 bodies is to attach a WA and Zoom individually, so as to save alot of trouble and precious time to change lens.

At most can ask me along n be ur 2nd photog. ;)

Cheers!

if i were to cover a wedding now, probably bring a Canon 20D+Sigma 18-125 plus flash and accessories, with G2 as a backup.

The 18-200 by Tamron looks interesting but there will be some compromises for a super zoom lens, e.g. slow autofocus, slow aperture, distortion, poor image quality wide open at some focal lengths. u have to determine whether the lens is still adequate for your purpose.

hmmm~ maybe i shoudl sae up for a 70-200 then~ u think a 200-400 is too much for a wedding? i cover indoor events with my 200-400 and my SB800... it works actually very well.. although f/5.6 the flash is more than adequet - and im standing about 30m away frm the stage. if not, i'll have to squeeze with my 50mm with all the other people at the stage taking photos :S

hmm.... u cover for fun or as the main/paid photographer? if you're the main photographer, you'll want to be close to the action , interact and give directions as needed (get eye contact, ask the couples to pose with the JP, etc) and a 200-400 is definitely too long. you won't want to stand 30m away from the couples and take pictures as if you're a sniper ;p

if you're covering for fun, any lens will do as long as it can give you the pics you want.

no worries! if you fall short of a mid-tele, perhaps you want to invest in a prime like an 90mm or 105mm? for a long time, my favorite combo was an 24-85mm + 105mm ... that's it. 105mm provides a good working distance for candids and/or portraiture. anything longer and usually you'll have to deal with lens shake, working distance n the likes.

1) pro body camera DSLR
2) 1.6x backup camera DSLR
3) 2 flashlites ex550
4) 1 17-35 2.8
5) 1 28-70 2.8
6) 1 50mm 1.4 sometimes a 35 f2 as well
7) bounce cards
8) memony cards up to 4gb
9) spare batteries for cameras and flashlights
10) lock for bag
11) sweets for kids, sometimes small inexpensive toys. (believe me after that the whole day the kid will worship you!)
12) towel, waistband, spare clothing

Will be covering as the main photographer... will be looking for a mid range lens cuz i don't want to be standing too far... or too close for comfort. perhaps can borrow first (if i still havent gotten one by then). thanks for all the ideas guys!!! :) one thing i can be sure of is that they'll allow flash photography :p haha... no flash for indoor is tough w/o a prime... and also that the photographer can walk around to catch the action. *yay*
