read somewhere before like avoid shadow on face? is that right ? and any other things should i take into consideration ? thanks

no hard and fast rules...

certain shadow details on the face will help conceal stuff...and prob things like make a long neck look longer shorter etc....

buten generally dun take face on....makes the subject's face look flat and 2d.....

cheers....

try to stand abit lower to make the person look tall....a rule of tumb is aim from the belly button upwards

blurred background would bring out the picture more

'candid' shots are good too

Er...don't quite agree here. It really depends what type of feeling you want to bring out...for model...yes...shoot from below...the subject will look tall and elegant...fat people...not quite make sense...you don't want to show their big belly...aim in the eyes is more common... also look out for the background...which will differentiate a so-so potrait and a great one!
