alright guys,

i have gotten my canon 550D for approx 2 mnths by now. had it with the kit 1 lens, hoya uv filters, nothing else.

strap it with the canon strap, and bring it out for shooting at times.am quite new in this hobby, dont know what is the next step i should do?

i havent found what i like to shoot too :(

next step is to read some books on photography.

Next step is to start learning. Read books, look at other people's pictures, try to get the same kind of shots like theirs. And keep shooting.

Why have you bought it in the first place? Was it just "monkey see, monkey do" with all the DSLR dangling at thousand necks in Singapore?
The next should NOT be to acquire any equipment, be it lenses, tripod or whatever.

go through the sub forum and try different subjects to shoot and shoot more . . . you will find something which you like ultimately.

Welcome to CS . . . :)

Oh, you may wish to join some outings here which you will learn more.

next time? use your camera more, and starting improving and taking good images! :D

Hi,

Some peeps, after shooting for some time, go into creative shots. Just shoot more, it also took me quite some time before i realize i like to shoot humans LOL.

I used to think i like landscapes... and fair enough i keep on going out to shoot landscapes.. but at time past... i realize i like potraits more. But might chance. u nv knows tsk tsk!

Go and look at the pic sharing thread. u might see something that u r really impressed.. and u can try shooting that too : )

Cheers.

haha yah, i seen alot of 'monkeys' these days on orchard road with a DSLR dangling on their necks but doesn't seems that they are going to take picture anytime. it had become a fashion statement now especially with the youngsters.

for me when i am not shooting, i rather keep my cam into bag.

Maybe they are taking pretty good shots ma bro :).
Anyhow things are getting much more affordable la, i saw so many tourists carrying dslrs when i was in HK and Macau recently.

i havent found what i like to shoot too :(

Examine why u got the dslr in the first place. No worries, shoot more and learn more as what others have mentioned. sometimes it might really not be the thing for you.

Hmmm... if you haven't found what you like to shoot is probably you have not shot enough. That just my guest.

Maybe you can share what you don't like, then maybe we can share what you can try. It's quite difficult to help people find their passion. The best anyone can do is suggest, the rest is up to the individual.

How about getting a dry box/cabinet to store your gears?

How about joining outings to learn more?

How about going down to bookstores and read up on photography books?

How about getting a camera bag?

:)

I'd suggest go shoot more; go try every type of photography that you might be interested in.

Continue shooting until you find out what you are good at; or what you really like.

Then work to improve your skills in that particular genre.

that's what i am doing now.

- landscape & travel (started out from this)
- food (find myself not so good in this area)
- cats (my sis says i took good cat photos?)
- protraits & streets (started quite recently early this year)
- Long exposure photography (started quite recently)
- Time lapse videography (just started)

:bsmilie:

but only one type of genre don't interest me... that is macro insect photography... :x

may try sports next time.

okay to be honest, it was my dad who bought the Canon DSLR. he only used it in the weekend. neither him nor me are pros. we are both very very new to dslr. this is our first. and mostly, when we go out, he dont carry the DSLR anymore. so it becomes like mine, eventually.

and im very enthu about car.im a car lover. VW sirocco, ferraris, bmw, merc S-class, Skoda superb, blah blah blah.

hmmm shot buildings once, and quite like it. but then not all singapore buildings are nice. sometimes when i spotted one, then i will shoot, else reserve shutter life, dont kill it for nothing (sounds abit stupid eh) LOL.

then I believe u should find out more about car shows? see if there is
any show being held.. maybe buy some car mag as it will expose u to
more cars photography and learn a but here and there? :) at least this
is what I will do if I were u..
