Hi guys

I am interested in macro photography (landscape, etc.), but I am not really satisfied with the kit lens that came with my EOS350D. As I am new to the DSLR scene, I was wondering if you brothers have got any good lens to suggest me to purchase? My budget is only about 100-200 dollars (current still a student unfortunately).

A photography Khaki of mine suggested the following lens: Tokina 90mm macro, Cannon 100mm macro and 50mm f1.8. Are these lens within my budget and how are their performance?

Sorry for asking so many question and thanks for taking a time to read thru them!

To me the performances and prices in ascending order Canon 100mm macro, Tokina 90mm and 50mm f1.8. Have used them except for f1.8 (I jumped to f1.4)

a dedicated macro lens will not be available at between 100-200 dollars...
if you are not shooting macro insects, then can consider a close up lens. that is the cheapest option...

else, you might need to purchase a dedicated macro lens

With the budget that you have, just get a Raynox Macro adaptor and fit it on your kit lens.
kit lens?

check out reverse lens for macro.

Your budget can only fetch u a 50 f/1.8 with close up filters or can purchase the reverse macro ring adapter.

A macro lens needs at least around $500+ for a start.

You can save perhaps up to 400 to get a 2nd hand tamron 90mm

Thanks to all of you for answering my questions, really appreciate it :)

However, may I know what is a macro filter? Is the filter compatible for the kit lens? Also, what is a macro ring adapter?

U mean close up filter? It's a filter that when mounted to your lens allows u to take close ups of objects. Comes in +2, +4, +5 and +10 (macro close up). Do remember that u cannot use your lens to focus infinity as this type of filter is just like magnifying glass for us so focusing range is very limited.

Is there any brands that you would recommend?

To me only Hoya. Tried to search to B+W but not avail and price is a lot higher.
What would be the price (2nd hand, approximately) for me to get a lens that is capable of taking nature photographs (Trees, landscape, etc.) Going to Yosemite this Sat and I dont want to miss the chance of taking gd pic >.<

why not check if there are any shops in your area that offers lenses for rent?

if happy then buy.
