Singapore - Indonesia
I don't know where should I post it,
so hopefully I am in the right place :)

Next month, I will have a trip to Java.
(It's the 2nd trip outside Singapore after takin photography as my hobby).
Thus, I am not very sure about what I should bring for the trip.
Do i need to bring tripod?
How about the lens?
Suggestion and advice are badly needed
Thanks :)

really depends on what you have, and what you wanna snap =)

you have to know what are likelihood you'll be shooting..

what system and lens you have so that we can share our view..

btw your way of writing is very hard for us to know what lenses you have and what to recommend you if you don't..

tell us :)

There was an exhibition which involved Indonesian and Singaporean photographers in 2004 and the photo-hunting was held in central Java - Indonesia, the thread is:

May be you can get any informations from the thread or you can ask the photographer listed there.

Regards,

Joko

I only have 4 lenses:
28-80mm/ f 3.5-5.6
50mm/ f1.7
100mm/f 2.8 macro
75-300mm/ f 4.5-5.6
I think i'll bring all.
Coz I also no idea what i would be shooting..
mostly street, still life, and landscape, i think.
Actually, the main problem is tripod and external flash.
Coz they are quite bulky. :)

u have said that u will be shooting mostly street, still life and landscape, so, leave 50mm/ f1.7 & 75-300mm/ f 4.5-5.6 & tripod at home.
flash is a must.

if i will u i will bring all haha just in case ... maybe get something to carry yr tripod ?

assuming you are using digital and not film

if u have a wide angle bring a wide angle. If not just bring the 28-80. As much as it is a photography trip, have fun and spend time to see the sights. So travel light and learn to shoot with what lens you have instead of just reaching for your camera bag for a solution. When I participated in Crossing Bridges - Central Java organised by Fotografer.net, Offstone and Clubsnap, I only brought the nikon 12-24 and the 80-200 with me. Besides great friendship and beautiful memories, here are some photos I got

As I am an available light photography, I didnt bring a flash. I brought a tripod for sunrise and sunset but if you willing to travel light with a wide angle and without a vertical grip you could get away with a light tripod. Otherwise just give sunrise and sunset a miss or be willing to return to the hotel for the tripod in between shots.

have a wonderful trip and do join us for Crossing Bridges v2.0 - Hong Kong Macau if you can

Is it a business trip or just a holiday trip ?
And if it is a holiday trip ... is it a package tour or those on your own one?
You may tell us whether are you going alone , or with your friends or wife/girlfriend ?

Buy a light-weight tripod for easy carry around. It's always when u don't have it u end up needing it. Make sure there is enough memory cards to your photos.

a flash is useful if you are shooting :
- your friends and yourself against a nice scenery or indoor
- indoor event

maybe you cut down the macro lens and bring a ext tube instead to lighten your load. Bring a lighter tripod too ...

just a reminder, dont ask local ppl (or anyone) to take photo of u.
if u r the lucky one, they might run off with ur cam .... ;p
