Very OT leh...let Uncle Ian has the answers he expected please. Jokes aside...

in Singapore, power trip or power surge is very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very rare. i encountered power trip like once in every 10 years.

For normal appliances in the house are directly connected to power socket as in Singapore is hardly had a power surge, but not on my music system, I use PS Audio Ultimate Outlet. It would not only protected from power surge but also clean the power line.

Cheers.

the phone line isn't so stable though. I've had 2 DSL modems fried in the past 2 years.

I am a bit kia su, I used UPS to protect my pc/server and my wine.

this is very dependent on the wiring of your house. i do know of places whereby the elec will trip cos of a nearby lightning strike.
