dunno if theres such a thread, but come to think of it, what make you guys invest so much into a hobby? and what makes you have that interest?

For me, i started out fish keeping as my first hobby in 2007 when i was just 14.. started surfing fish forum(arofanatics) and started to share photos.. my first digicam was a nikon PnS(forget what model, the one that the lens can swivel to keep) bought by my dad in 2007.. then father bought a fujifilm F31fd in early 2008 which i always "steal" to use from him.. it was the period when i gained interests in photography..

It was then in 2009 when i started to feel that PnS was not enough.. wanted to take sharp and good fish photos.. so i did plentiful of research + worked during year end to save up to finally get my first DSLR, a sony a300... Have been saving all the while and just a month ago, i upgraded to a550.. Right now i do take outdoor photos and not only fish photos.. i guess that makes me having another hobby, which is photography..

So what's yours?

Always loved painting, but increasingly no time, so i decided to venture photography as a different breed of visual representation. While neither replaces each other, they are remarkably similar in their ways such as composition and aesthetics. I probably dabble abit more brush and paint next time when i retire :bsmilie:

No lah I mean my 70-200 :embrass:. Enough goofing.

Well simple the enjoyment of looking at good photographs

Because it's frustrating not being able to capture the soul of a scenery. I think I was in poly when I went to Japan, using a cheap camera with little technology. Kyoto is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever set foot on, but no matter how I tried, I just couldn't capture the beautiful architecture that's just right in front of me. Pek cekkkkkk.

Whenever I want to relive my memories from Japan, I can only look at grainy and over-exposed photos, lol.

And then I bought a P&S. My P&S (Canon Ixus 850IS) was quite good, but the night shots were horrible and extremely grainy, and then there's nothing I could do about it........................ except for getting a new and better camera.

Thereafter I used a prosumer - Sony Cybershot DSC H-7. I like to take photos of events as well (live gigs, fashion shows, whatnot) so the shutter speed of 2fps killed me tragically (I don't even have shaky hands!).

And again, there's nothing I could do about it........................ except for getting a new and better camera. :bsmilie:

The expectations just get higher and higher. :sticktong

people were willing to pay me for my photography?

at my current rates, people expect more for their money then me turning up with just a PnS which was how i got started.

besides, beats a desk job anytime + opens up networking opportunities.

I lose less money buying gears than buying shares or playing at the casinos..

I love my wife, my children and photography. I have no other hobby!

i have ZERO interest in photography

I do have a passionate interest in humans, the societies they live in and its different cultures.... camera is just my notebook and sketchpad

I got a PnS Kodak film camera when I was in Primary 4 or 5.
Since then, photography has fascinated me until now.
The wonder of being able to immortalize a scene or create an artwork with the click of a shutter.
Also, I've always been drawn to artistic pursuits but never could draw or paint, so photography was my medium to create and express my art. :)

Was given a Canon AE-1 which my late mom got from a govt auction when I was in my teens. Only seriously started using after my NS and from the Canon moved on to Cosina, Chinon and Pentax SLR and there I have stayed until now. Only bought a Pentax DSLR in mid 2008 after getting a Fujifilm E550 PnS and did not like the results.

Now going back to film and just got my latest poison a late 1984 LX to shoot film.

I always had an interest in photography. Ever since I was photographed riding. I was attracted to it.. but due to the high costs at the time to start up (I really loved the nikon d70, but as life is irony, I'm using a canon...) I didn't take it up till 2008 with a canon 1000D.

In the stint where I was camera less, I dabbled in photo manipulations and digital imagery but self learning is a mighty slow process so I wasn't great at it.

two years on, I am still taking photos every day and I don't see myself stopping unless the camera breaks its own #$%@...

But all this doesn't really answer your question now does it.. What makes me have an interest in photography? The answer is simple.. Because I love it.
