what lense to bring for travelling to vietnam ?

28-135 ?
70-200 ?
17-40 ?

Thread moved to General, Reviews/Previews, Technical Discussions.

Bring all...

U'll regret it of U don't...
Just that U do not need to carry all the lenses in the bag... leave some in your hotel room/safe.

Assuming only allow 1 lens.

The 28-135 seem the best travelling lens amongst your 3 choice in terms of coverage but again it depends on your style.

I love street photography and can shamelessly shoot near to people subject and it is good for landscapes. So my 17-40 is always in my travel bag. I couple it with the good ól 50/1.8.

My another travel set up is the tamron 28-75 with my newly acquired sigma 15mm fisheye.

I never bring tele along for travel because I do not usually need tele. I only bring tele for revisits when I know which place require tele shoots.

I have been using the 28-135 IS for travelling. Then again, depend of what you want to shoot.

For your case, if I am you, I would bring both the 17-40 (to cover a little wide) & 28-135 (to cover a little tele)

Ok.. this reply more constructive...

I'll bring the 17-40, and 70-200
Coz dun think I'll need anything in between.

If die die only can bring 1, then it'll be the 28-135

28-135 and 1 wide will be good. :)

Alternatively, bring 1 50mm only, it's cheap, so even if you drop it, you feel no pain.

Just need to do some walking.

will i get robbed in vietnam with a 10D ? hahahaha
Any bad experiences ?

myloplex: When and where are you going? If you are using a 1.6x crop body... bring the 17-40, you will need it.

Going to Hanoi myself next week, will be bring 16-35, 50/1.4 and 70-200 IS & 1.4x, 550EX and a table top tripod.

I guess the question should be "what lense is good to bring vietnam ?"

For me , I would bring 17-40L and a portrait lens like 85mm , 100mm , 135mm for light weight travelling

Nah, not covering the games for anyone, but will try to shoot the games if I can get my hands on a media pass (highly doubtful though).

It's a personal trip, joining a pal which is covering the games now, for a 10 days vacation and photo trip there.

For a 10D, i'd choose a 17-40 and a 85/1.8 for the trip.

Determine what are the subject you want to shoot in vietnam. Landscape? bring 17-40. Street shooting ? bring 28 - 135. In my opinion, 70 - 200 may not be necessary for travel use. The best is to bring both 17-40 & 28-135. But if you want to bring only one lens, choose 28-135. For me, I would bring 17-40 & couple with a 50mm.
