what do you want to shoot in Langkawi first of all and what are your favorite genres ?

24-85 will cover most situations

500mm f4 would be nice...seems like there are eagles there.

24-85 should suffice if you are on one lens setup. On full frame 24mm allows you to take some landscape, and up to 85mm for portrait shots.

Anyway we do not know what you want to shoot and also what lenses do you have currently so it is hard for people to give some suggestions.

Yes. D700+24-85 will suffice. More than enough to produce pro-quality photos.
Focus more on the thinking behind getting better photographs rather than bringing more gear along.

In my opinion, if your main purpose is to go for holiday and enjoy family time, just bring a PnS or your smart phone. DSLR is overkill. Just my personal opinion, but if you bringing the DSLR, your setup is more then enough.

24-85 is good!

It is also known as the "Langkawi" lens.
