looks like a 100-400L with the push pull design, or perhaps the 28-300L

It look more like push/pull zoom EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

These are not snipers lah. Kevlar helmet, no ghilly suit, these are infantry soldiers. 2nd and 3rd pic shows m16 carbine. A sniper would be using a scope. White lens is a definite no-no, not even camoflaged, that's unprofessional.

should be recce who need to use the camera

sniper and recce works closely together, sometimes sniper can function as recce too

Shouldn't the white lens be 'Gaffed' Black ??

Hmm ... should be pick up one of those : dslr body with tele lens choice on counter strike games then :)

what are they using this for??

what are they using this for??

u know, the rural area where ladies bath in the stream?:sweatsm::sweatsm:

quite odd to see they camo everything except the white lens, also, no hood the filter / front element likely to reflect light to the enemy, there by expose their position.

mayb they are scout?
coz sniper only spot & kill, need to take pic meh?:dunno:

anw, white lens seems v.v.wrong. no tactical rationale at all. unless its in tundra area.

Someone is filming it.. maybe it's part of an advertisement or documentary?

Then maybe main sponsor is canon? so they "muz" show the white lens..

It's part of the new Discovery Series documenting the different roles of snipers, called Modern Sniper. They do have recon missions as well y'know.

Oh ya TS, your aspect ratio for TV is wrong :p the lenses are supposed to be circular, not oval ;)

The real missions they confirm camo their lens also one lah. White lens is a dead giveaway, can spot from far far.

My first time using a DSLR was during NSF days more than 10 years ago.

the DSLR got to kept inside a pelican suit case to keep it shock/water proof.

For the recce, it is ok for them to carry it for mission since they can ride bike and carry carbine

but not practical for sniper who got to bash thru jungle with a long rifle in the camo suit

looks like you're not familiar with the sniper's role.

(quoting the tv series)in today's warfare, snipers are trained as scouts, thereby earning the name "scout sniper"
