what lend combo would u pick for a D80?

Combo 1:

Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 + Nikkor AF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G
reason: using 17-50 for both lanscape and Portrait, 70-300 for high zooming and "hard to reach"
or

Combo 2:

Nikkor 18-135mm(d80 kit lens) + nikkor 50mm f/1.8
reason: 18-135mm for do it all(landscape and "hard to reach"), 50mm for Potrait.

BTW shooting lanscape most of time,
need not to consider budget for both combo above, as if my budget cannot reach for the item above. i might consider buying one at a time.

Reason for asking: Will buy a D80 in this month.

if its about getting a lens first will be 18-135 but otherwise the first combo is good to cover the entire range to 300mm..

tamron 17-50 is also good with its constant 2.8 for you to experiment with depth of field. Well i guess 70-300 can be used to shoot portrait to but it isnt the sharpest of lenses though.

without VR, the 70-300 is limited to uses in bright lights.
unless you 70-300 is too much of a stretch for sharpness.
get 80-200/f2.8 (or if budget allows: 70-200/f2.8)

the kit lens is very sharp. 18-135 should help you cover a good reach in the +/- 100mm range.
anything beyond 100mm, you better use quality & fast glass.

18-135mm first as it can cover most of your reach and when u have money and into landscape trying getting sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6

currently using D80 with kit lens and 70-300mm VR and 50mm f1.8 prime

did a simple test on my kit lens, the lens is good for traveling around but it has some short coming which u may like to know, the kit lens is not very sharp at 18-35, 35 on wards its sharp. how i test, was i took a shot of my monitor at a fixed distance away at 18, 24, 35, 50, 70, 135mm and i can blow the picture up until i can see clearly and sharp individual pixel of my monitor screen on picture taken at 35-135mm range but not at 18-35mm range. I would say that if u r not those who would pixel fault your photos, the kit lens is pretty good, else i would suggest u going for those other lens 17-55mm range which should give u sharp picture thru out its zoom range.

70-300 is really good for tele shot but without VR, be prepare to get lots of blur photos at max zoom. no VR would pretty much restrict your condition to use the lens to bright sunny days outdoor.
