and the sun was behind u casting a shadow on your face

what is the proper name for this?

i know u are suppose to use "fill flash" to solve this problem...but i want to know the name of this.

yeah backlit! read from some manuals that you need to use force flash in that situation. ;)

:) I meant that in most of the DC that the flash will not fire if that is in auto mode.
