What is the relationship between PnS zoom and SLR zoom?

In PnS, they will say this lens is 10X optical zoom? how does that relate as compare to the zoom range of the focal length of the SLR lens, e.g. 18-200mm? is that an equivalent or some kind of mathematics?

200 / 18 = 11.1x zoom.
