FX = full frame sensor

DX = crops size sensor

fullframe sensor meaning the sensor in the camera is exactly the same size as those film frame in the olden days.

crop size sensor which you it is a sensor which is smaller than the film size.

as for your d5000, it is a DX body with a crop factor of 1.5x on the focus length of the len.

that's mean if you are holding to a 10mm - XXXmm len you will expect a narrower view of 10mm x 1.5 = 15mm wide.

as this moment i tdont think this will affect your camera if you buy any lens. all nikon lens fit well on DX body.

but after sometime of shooting you might want to invest in a high price FX body for specify shoot like landscape or portrait etc....
