What is 100% crop?

I have been reading this "100% crop" on the forums,

I am wondering is it for? Idea behind this?

P.S: apologize if this has been asked somewhere else.

meaning u zoom in to the pic at 100% and crop a certain area of it out, it will be 100% crop..

Sometimes to evaluate the performance of the lens ( or even sensor )

it is to inspect lens optical quality. comparative lor, i guess.

" crop " is a section of a picture
100% is full size uncompressed in all its glory
100% crop is a section of the original full sized pic

For example :
