What equipment for wedding shots?

Hi guys..

A friend of mine is currently asking me to do backup photographer as the one he hired is going over the girls side then his side . what im doing is basically cover the main photographer when he's at the girls side.

this are the equipment that I have .. sufficient ?

1) d50
2) kit lens (18-50)
3) 50mm f1.8
4)35-80 f3.5-5.6
5) vivtar 100-300mm
6) nikon sb-24

im planning to get an sb400 to replace the sb24 as the sb400 can TTL while the sb24 fires manually (often very underxposed)

isit a good idea to rent a 28-70 f2.8 for that day ?

*ps* its a malay wedding..

I intend to bring only my d50, kit ,50mm and flash

17-55 f2.8 would be better... and probably a sb400 as well

D50+flash+18-50(Sigma?)

btw, even without the f2.8 lens, 18-55 if you have it, its more then enough. I did a short ROM with 18-70 all the way also.

D50 is sufficient. Don't think to bring plenty of lenses as the moment may loss when you changing lens. If you have 17-55, this more than enough. Flash I rather use SB800.

I would think that as a backup photographer, you would need a flash, the D50, 18-50 (kit lens) and a 50mm f1.8. This should be sufficient. If you are worried bring along your 35-80mm, chances are you will not use it...

D50 is sufficient. Don't think to bring plenty of lenses as the moment may loss when you changing lens. If you have 17-55, this more than enough. Flash I rather use SB800.

SB400 GN number or power is not good for such important event. You might need to increase camera's ISO/ASA to compensate low GN of SB400, result in high noise.

SB24 may have better GN. If SB24 can do auto flash, it is maybe better than SB400.

Maybe you can ask whether the main photographer have backup flash and hopefully is SB800 .

question : instead of the 18-55 kit lens , how about the 18-135 as an alternative ? for the extra reach... hehe

IMHO, between 3 kit lens Nikon have for dslr, 18-55mm is the lowest quality one, but for some it is good as it is the lighter one.

I would rank it as:
1 - 18-70mm
2 - 18-135mm
3 - 18-55mm

dun waste time with the 28-70, just not wide enuff.

get a sb600 at least. dun waste ur money on the sb400 as u will find it inadequate in the near future

its not enough, save and get the 17-35 instead if you really want to do wedding.

Every one have their own style to take photo. For some, 28-70mm may enough. But I feel 28-70mm is not wide enough. I prefer 18-70mm, especially in close space like when you take dinning table shot. You may don't have plenty space if you shoot with 28mm and digital camera like nikon (DX size sensor, which is view angle like 42mm equivalent 35mm film camera).
