What does 4 Base. 16 Base means?

Hi, in the price list for scanning, some labs list the scanning at 4 Base, 16 Base, 64 Base etc.

What does base means and what does the numbers 4, 16 etc signify? :dunno:

These are terms derived from the Kodak PhotoCD days. 4-base refers to a resolution of 1536 x 1024, 16-base refers to 3072 x 2048.

Note that Fuji Frontier's 4-base is 1800 x 1200 though.

4-base : 1818 x 1228
16-Base : 3360 x 2240
