Canon's 400D

- The World famous super small handgrip..... only good for very small man/woman or children.
- It has a shutter sound that is soooo artificial.... not like Canon 40D or Nikon 80D
- View finder could be better......

you add in the recoil of the mirror..

350D

1. Unless you have tiny hands, its not comfortable to use without the grip. I used it for many months without one and my fingers thanked me when I finally got it :D
2. The lack of the rear command dial, just something i miss whenever i use the xxD or xD series
3. Pretty bad AF tracking.
4. Coming from a film camera, the viewfinder is kinda puny...
5. All plastic body dosent exactly inspire confidence.

I guess after using this cam for about 18 months its a very good camera for the $ though it has devalued alot since then , and i already bought it second hand...

d60, there is no dedicated custome white balance button.

if there is, it will be alot more convenient, set the cam to auto white balance, than if i need to customize the white balance, just point and press cwb button and continue shooting. to switch of cwb, just press the button again.

but need to have a preset in the menu, ie, cwb will remember the white balance or it will reset the white balance everytime.

D40x- only 3 focus point; only limited lens could be use; some function which are found in higher end cameras are not found here (but well, it is an entry camera, so shld be ok)........

D2X

C,S,M focusing switch near the lens - too easy to switch from S to C
LCD - not accurate at all
mirror-slap - very loud
rubber grip coming unstuck

otherwise it's great

E-3

Dont like:

1) Slow sync (curtain flash) mode not always "ready" in P or A mode.
2) the buttons (flash, mode, AF) should be placed at the front near the lens release button. To facilitate entire operation via viewfinder, instead of fiddling the controls while holding the camera body with both hands.
3) AF tracking can be further improve. (with more explanation in the manual as well! LOL)

Can be improve:
3) More Fn buttons will be appreciated. Which i have already assign "mode" to it due to the design as mentioned on No.2.
4) different noise filter setting can be assign to the ISO level. for example: zero noise filter assigned to ISO100-800 while as low noise filter to 1600-3200.
5) Noise level to be as good as fuji. Now almost on par with nikon.

Like best:
6) image stabiliser (up to 5 stop)
7) very very fast (especially with SWD lenses) & accurate AF
8) very sensitive AF. Can focus on dim TV LED with lights completely off.
9) very good WB (due to external WB detector)
10) robust body & splash proof body
11) auto ISO- i am getting goofy but it certainly aided a lot of "press the shutter" only situations.
12) very good DR (using SAT on JPEG aka auto graduation, looks good even with raw files)

Things taken for granted:
13) SWF dust reduction
14) Live view
15) colour rendition (aka olympus colour)

D40

Don't like :
1) Only one custom button for both WB and ISO setting. I wish there were two, I could stay out of the menu all the time.
2) I have to press my nose against the LCD to see the VF properly. I wish the VF would extend outside a little more.
3) Only one scroll wheel for both A and S, have to press a modifier button.

Like :
1) Light light light  Almost as light as my S5600, can shoot with one hand
2) Fits my hand perfectly, the grip is -well- perfect
3) I can use most functions with a single button press, which I love, I (almost) never look for what I need, it's right where I expect it
4) Big screen. A pain in the nose, but makes for great "Look at that one" moments

Canon 400D

for my level, a perfect camera. No complain.

just a wish list: autofocus life view.

upz. hope to see continued inputs from others.

D3

Focusing in low-light. Not as good as D2X. Not sure what went wrong on this one - hopefully a firmware upgrade might be able to sort it out.
Heavy!

Canon 300D

Metering unselectable in Av,Tv modes.
Slow loading of CF.
Not so accurate AF at times.

Other then that I just wished it had built in IS and Live View lol.

HAHAHA, totally agreee.
seriously really hate the shutter, "ker cheenh" unlike the 30,40D series "gclok"

minolta x-700

- requires batteries to run. no mechanical option.
- film window would be nice. sometimes forget what type of film loaded.

other than that, it's great!

Well...
Wish my EOS 10D

- is a little lighter...
- viewfinder a little bigger...
- have better long exposure noise

:)

You copied most points from here huh? haa haa

Canon EOS 5D

Pros:
  • Excellent resolution. Too good in fact. Resolution sometimes is too high that I have to lower it.
  • Full frame 35 mm size sensor delivers film-like shooting experience, real wide angle
  • Very large, bright viewfinder really fills your vision
  • Very low noise even at higher sensitivities
  • About a third of a stop more sensitive than indicated
  • Very well implemented large buffer supported by fast CF throughput
  • Very well built, very robust, very nice to hold!
  • Very fast in use, short shutter lag, instant startup
  • Spot metering
  • New Picture Styles make it easier to get 'ready to use' results straight from the camera
  • Wide range of image parameter adjustment (-4 to +4 for most)
  • Wide range of ISO sensitivities, ISO 50 - 3200 (with 'ISO Expansion' enabled)
  • Huge LCD monitor with great resolution, dimmer than some smaller screens
  • Soft touch shutter release
  • Orientation sensor
  • Optional WFT-E1 wireless transmitter (802.11 b/g)

Cons:
  • Edge softness / falloff / chromatic aberrations, needs good lenses
  • Pretty average automatic white balance in artificial light
  • No anti-reflective coating on LCD monitor
  • No built-in AF assist lamp

Canon 400D.

Pros
  1. Lightweight ( this i found out after trying out the XXD models)
  2. Compact ( Grip too small)
  3. Good price for entry level
  4. I love the noise it makes "ker cheenh"

cons:
  1. No spot metering
  2. Recoil of mirror swing up significant due to lightweight body.
  3. low dynamic range.(when using evalutative metering *correct me if i'm wrong)

D40x

no 35mm sensor, otherwise its ok

Olympus E-3

Pros:
1) Splashproof/Weatherproof body and many splashproof/weatherproof lenses.
2) Very fast AF. Even faster with SWD lenses
3) Image Stabilisation. Up to 5 stops.
4) High ISO noise. Cannot beat Nikon D300. The noise produced is more grain than coloured noise.
5) Dynamic Range. Improved from E-510.
6) Articulated LCD. Useful for shots with weird angles or high-angle/low-angle shots.
7) Very accurate WB. Because of external WB sensor.
8) Dust reduction. Have not seen a single dust.
9) Shutter sound. Very sexy and not too loud. :bsmilie:
10) Very robust and stable.
11) Of course not forgetting. Wonderful Olympus Colours! Good In-cam processing.
12) Large and bright Viewfinder. Equal or larger than most APS-C cameras.
13) Good placement of some buttons, like the ISO button etc.
14) LCD is viewable in bright sunlight.
15) Has a sensor on LCD to detect ambience light and change LCD brightness accordingly.
16) Compared to other competitive brands, price is very reasonable for a weatherproof and robust body.

Cons:
1) Can be lighter.
2) Live View has a slight delay.
3) Plastic card and battery door.
4) No AF assist lamp
5) Placement of buttons can be improved. Off/On switch can be hard to access with right hand. Must use left-hand.
6) More choices for Function button. Or another Function button.
7) AEL/AFL button hard to reach. Can be switched with Fn button though.
8) IMO, top LCD is not needed. I don't really use it.
