Pentax came up top in image quality! But they hated the colour scheme on the lens body.

Pentax DA 12-24mm f4.0 19 (out of 20)
Carl Zeiss T* 16-35mm f2.8 18
Olympus Zuiko 9-18mm f4..0-5.6 17
Sony DT 11-18 f4.5-5.6 17
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 17
Nikkor AF-S 12-24mm f4.0 17

Coincidentally I was looking at the DA12-24 reviews in PentaxForums today. Very good reviews, especially in terms of its sharpness, distortion control and CA. Touted to match primes which is really admirable given that its a UWA zoom. Very reasonably priced compared to C&N counterparts. Only thing is that the built may not be that fantastic and it's quite huge, especially with the hood. Else, I am so tempted to buy. Lol.

From reviews, it is said to out perform the DA14mm. The fact that it is a zoom makes it worth the extra few hundred $ over the DA14. Even Photozone is impressed with its performance.

What digital camera UK, Sept 2009 issue.

Don't undermine the DA14mm f2.8, a len among the limited though it's not .... and it's very good to use for extreme low-light, conditions much more reliable tham the 31mm f1.8 but of course both lens are of different league and purpose..

If I am not wong, DA14mm f2.8 is the best among the rests, of the same league please correct me, if I am wong.

no third party lenses? :eek::eek::eek:

No, they only tested those listed. They may have tested 3rd party lenses in previous issues, but I am not too sure.

From some reviews I had read, the DA12-24 seems to be optically equivalent or superior to the DA14.

Seldom use the hood one ... can keep it in the box. You'll be using your lens with GNDs, NDs that you'll not need the hood. I have not got much flare issues with this lens unlike the Sigma 10-20.
