Look at the bright spots that appear on the field. I know the flood lights caused them, but why did it appear? Also, notice the purple spots too? Can anyone explain to me? :)

Lens flare?

Lens flare is caused by (correct me if I'm wrong) internal reflection and refractions of the light rays by the lens elements.

Hmm.... is that what makes L lenses different from non-L lenses?

Is it true that L lenses does not have such problem?

Lens flare happened to all lens depending on the angle you take the picture especially directly at the light. The quality of lens is just one of the factor. It can only be reduced by using lens hook and filter, sometimes lens flare do gives good result. Try 2 shoot more to see the results since it was digital.

I suppose you're talking about lens hood... :)
Anyway, to add on, you can sometimes use lens flare to your advantage to make more dynamic shots.
