its little wonder since i rarely see people on wheel chair take bus or train. all for show niah, wad inclusive society... :(

WAB - part of our world class transportation marketing campaign.

Something like vaporware ...

Must be scholar's Ideas.:bsmilie:

Here in Hong Kong, there aren't WAB routes... ALL routes are WAB routes... as long as a bus takes a wheelchair it WILL take a wheelchair. As for non-wheelchair compatible bus stops... seriously, i'm sure the bus can accomodate any bus stop.

Why add more WAB buses when there are not so many "WAB-safe" routes?
Because, these WAB buses can accomodate more 'standing' passengers than normal buses. Like that, each bus can fetch more passengers per trip = cost savings = profits up :)

no wonder they increase the bus fare....to subsidise the marketing campaign

What a joke...duh~

yup... a load of bullcrap from them. that's what we pay and receive in return... bullcrap.

I've taken the single deck wheelchair accessible bus(WAB) and the passenger seating capacity is designed by someone who does not take the bus.

There're too many empty spaces at the front and the back seats floor is too high for old and weak people to go up.

"WAB-safe" routes mean routes that do not affect their profits.
How come "WAB-safe" routes were not mentioned earlier?

By helping the disabled persons to load and unload the wheelchairs,
those routes would be incurred longer travel time. All "extra time to help
the disabled" does not generated real profit. The bus companies must
be profitable (some said they must, also given formula to make profits).

It is all about not making enough $$$$ by helping the disabled?

:dunno:

It is really looking like SBS is using disabled as an excuse to get buses with less seats and more standing room. Really as one here said, pack in the passengers and run fewer trips, maximum profits.

strange that TP never go up a packed bus & do head count on the limit of pax allowed. but i guess commuters will ultimately borne the cost of the fines...

This is against PTC mission statement.
The Public Transport Council (PTC) was established in 1987 as an independent body to approve and regulate bus services, public transport fares and ticket payment services. It is entrusted with the challenging mission of balancing commuters' interest with the long-term viability of the public transport operators.

Get ready for some spin doctor statements.

If you look at this country buses, at least SBS has the wheelchair access bus decal and have the wheelchair bus infrastructure unlike Malaysia where there is no such service.

You can't compare with European bus services that has wheelchair access buses as this is uniquely Singapore and have different routes and cheaper bus fares when compared to Europe.

I think the main problem with them is that even though the bus not supposed to take people, they still paste the sticker on it. If the bus can't take people, just remove the sticker la! So obvious, yet they say cannot do it.

just a load of bull as usual. high time we need competitors

being a small country, fuel consumption would be less, wear & tear of parts is also less, that should bring prices of fares lower. not to mention a highly dense population to support the transport operator.

*why bring in another country to compare, how fare is it?

Obviously wheelchair bound people won't alight at a bus stop which they cannot maneuver around... So why set the WAB route rule? Just let them on board. Stupid rule... we're the laughing stock of the world
